Job Overview/Purpose:

Reporting to the Manager, Employment & Training, the Training Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Haisla Nation Council’s employment-related training programs that aim to enhance the economic well-being of community members by ensuring access to relevant training, education, and job opportunities. This includes assessing individual training needs; coordinating and facilitating certification courses such as safety training, technical skills, and interpersonal skills to enhance employability and job readiness; maintaining accurate and up to date records; and collaborating with community members, external partners, and government agencies to ensure the programs meet the needs of the community.

 

Job Duties:

  • Provide individualized guidance to participants, assisting them in selecting appropriate training programs and create actionable plans to achieve them.
  • Assist clients in navigating Certificate, Trades, and Short-term training application processes, and course selection.
  • Assist students with accessing financial aid through both internal programs and external agencies.
  • Conduct assessments to identify training needs based on labour market trends and feedback from community members.
  • Work with the Manager, Employment & Training to identify specific employment and training needs within the community and create tailored programs that reflect the community’s cultural and economic context.
  • Coordinate and promote training and certification programs, such as trades training, safety training, leadership development, and technical skills programs, to meet the demands of the local and regional job market.
  • Engage with the community through outreach activities, including information sessions and meetings with prospective students and their families.
  • Provide guidance and resources to support students transitioning from education to workforce.
  • Monitor participant progress and achievement of program goals, and make improvements as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of participants, programs, and outcomes to evaluate the success of initiatives.
  • Assist clients with employment matters by liaising with relevant industry partners and companies we collaborate with.
  • Assist in the development of policies and strategies to promote training programs and skill-building within the community.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers to create training-to-job pathways, offering post-training support to participants as they transition into employment.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive support for community members.
  • Participate in the annual performance review process and develop and carry out an annual professional development plan.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent.
  • Career Development or Adult Education certification, or related post-secondary certificate.
  • 1 to 3 years of recent related experience.
  • Experience working for a band government or Indigenous organization an asset.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history with formalized education systems, residential school and on-going inter-generational effects specific to education and social programming and familiarity with Haisla and Henaksiala history, culture, goals and aspirations. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative and productive working relationships with a variety of individuals.
  • Comfortable working both alone and in a team environment.
  • Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and various databases, search engines and Outlook/email.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to work collaboratively with and influence a diverse group of individuals.
  • Creativity, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor.
  • Passion for ongoing professional development and growth.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening if relevant).
