Human Resource Coordinator

Department:  Human Resources (1 Year Contract)

Overview:

Manage the day to day HR operations, administration of HR processes and activities within the organization to enhance the employee experience.

 

 Job Duties:

  • Collaborate with payroll to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee information and changes.
  • Coordinate employee recognition programs, safety initiatives and all other HR programs to foster a positive work culture.
  • Act as a point of contact for employees, providing support and guidance on HR policies, procedures, and related inquiries.
  • Address employee concerns and mediate conflicts with empathy and cultural sensitivity.
  • Foster a positive and respectful work environment that embraces diversity and First Nations values.
  • Maintain and enforce HR policies and procedures that meet legal requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations in collaboration with legal advisors.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Conduct compensation analysis to ensure fair and competitive salary structures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR records and documentation, ensuring confidentiality and data security.
  • Assist in creating HR-related reports, resources and communications materials including company policies, procedures, and other HR documents.
  • Contribute to employee engagement initiatives and events.
  • Assist with training needs and coordinate workshops.
  • Assist in the implementation of performance management systems.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in HR functions, preferably within a First Nations community or Indigenous organization.
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations Culture, traditions, and values is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Familiarity with relevant labor laws and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in HR software and MS Office applications.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in human resources or administrative roles.
  • Experience supporting a multi-disciplinary or diverse team.
  • A combination of experience, education, and training in a related field and industry may also be deemed acceptable.
  • Knowledge of employment law and industry regulations, including the Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Worker's Compensation Act – WorkSafe BC, and Canadian Human Rights Act is preferred.
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a demanding environment.
  • Highly developed interpersonal relationship-building and employee coaching skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and the ability to adapt to different audiences.
  • College Diploma in Business, Human Resource Management, Social Sciences, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Valid BC driver’s license.
  • Ability to meet intensive and changing deadlines.
