Community Wellness Manager

Job Overview:

Reporting to the Director, Health & Wellness, the Manager, Community Wellness is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Haisla Nation Council’s programs and services that promote the overall health and well-being of the community. This includes designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive community wellness programs; overseeing program delivery and outcomes; leading initiatives that support community health, cultural continuity, social development, and family recreation; and developing and maintaining strong relationships with community members, Elders, and others to ensure programs are tailored to meet the community’s needs.

The Manager, is responsible for the leadership, management, and supervision of the IRSS Support Worker, Mental Health Clinician, Recreation Coordinator, and Outreach Support Worker.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Program Leadership: The Manager, Community Wellness supports the Community Wellness program in achieving strategic and operational objectives. 

  • Work with the Director, Health & Wellness to develop and implement the Community Wellness operational plan, ensuring alignment with the department and organization-wide strategic objectives.
  • Support the implementation of appropriate monitoring and evaluation frameworks for all program deliverables to drive continuous improvement and impact of the Haisla Nation Council’s services.
  • Implement program policies and procedures..

Program Operations: The Manager, Community Wellness oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the Community Wellness program.

  • Work closely with heath professionals, social workers, and other professionals to implement holistic services.
  • Supervise all program- related facility maintenance, including facility grounds, capital improvements and security. 
  • Support the Director, Health & Wellness  

Financial Management: The Manager, Community Wellness manages the program’s budgets, ensuring sound financial management.

  • Manage reporting requirements.
  • Maintaining appropriate fiscal controls to ensure sound financial management..

People Leadership: The Manager, Community Wellness is a resource and mentor to the team, providing guidance and direction on risks, issues, or problems to ensure services achieve intended benefits and meet expectations. 

  • Work with the HR department to identify capacities needed (skillsets and competencies) to achieve program goals.
  • Lead the hiring, evaluation, professional development, discipline, and dismissal of program staff.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Community Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience providing operational leadership, particularly as it relates to community wellness, health services, or social services.
  • In-depth understanding of Indigenous health and wellness issues, including trauma-informed care.
  • Experience working for a band government or Indigenous organization is an asset.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Ability to set goals and implement an operational plan for the department.
  • Ability to provide leadership to direct reports and ongoing support for their performance and development.
  • Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to professionally connect with and influence a diverse group of individuals.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead projects and work with diverse individuals to identify issues, design solutions, and evaluate results.
  • Knowledge of funding processes, including grant writing and reporting.
  • Experience in change management and organizational development.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening if relevant).

Compensation Range:  $40.14 - $54.31
