Social Media Specialist

Reports to:     Communications Manager

Job Overview

The Social Media Specialist will be responsible for developing and executing a social media strategy to enhance our online presence while promoting brand awareness. A key aspect of the role is engaging with our Haisla membership by managing daily social media activities, including content creation, community interaction, and analyzing performance metrics to ensure our platforms align with both our communication strategy and the organization’s strategic plan. The Social Media Specialist will take direction from the Senior Communications Coordinator and report to the Administration and Communications Manager.

We are about 2023+ people, with approximately 700 living in Kitamaat Village. We have lived off the land and waters of our traditional territory for thousands of years, and it remains the focus of all we do.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Content Creation: Develop, design and produce engaging content, including text, images, and videos, that align with Haisla Nation’s communication goals and brand guideline.
  • Platform Management: Manage social media accounts across various platforms, ensuring consistent and timely updates that engage and grow our audience.
  • Strategy Development: Create and execute social media strategies that promote Haisla Nation’s initiatives, events, and community stories.
  • Community Engagement: Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and respectful manner, fostering a positive online community.
  • Analytics and Reporting: Track social media performance metrics, analyze data, and provide insights to improve strategies and engagement.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work closely with internal teams to align social media efforts with broader communication strategies.
  • Social Listening: Keep up-to-date with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices, applying them to enhance engagement and reach.
  • Graphic Design and Video Editing: Create visual content, including graphics, images, and short videos, to enhance storytelling and engagement on social media.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field; or a minimum of two plus years of proven experience as a Social Media Specialist or Content Creator.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, and trends.
  • Proficiency with social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of analytics tools (Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, etc.).
  • Excellent writing, communication, and visual content creation skills.
  • Creativity and ability to generate fresh ideas for engagement and growth.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Experience with video creation, editing and graphic design software (Canva, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, etc.)

Compensation Range:  $26.39-$35.71
