Position Title: RECOVERY SKILLS FACILITATOR
Reports to: Manager, Community Wellness
Job Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Community Wellness, the Recovery Skills Facilitator is a key member of the Haisla Nation's wellness and support team. This position is responsible for facilitating structured, evidence-based group and individual recovery sessions aimed at supporting individuals dealing with substance use or behavioral addictions. The facilitator will utilize cognitive-behavioral strategies, motivational interviewing techniques, and programs such as SMART Recovery to assist participants in building the skills necessary for long-term recovery and personal growth.
The Recovery Skills Facilitator promotes a compassionate, strength-based approach and upholds cultural values while supporting clients on their recovery journey.

We are about 2023+ people, with approximately 700 living in Kitamaat Village. We have lived off the land and waters of our traditional territory for thousands of years, and it remains the focus of all we do.
Duties & Responsibilities
Program Delivery & Facilitation:
- Facilitate group-based recovery support sessions using evidence-based models (e.g., SMART Recovery).
- Conduct one-on-one coaching to help individuals build coping strategies and recovery plans.
- Use motivational interviewing techniques to support behavior change and personal insight.
- Deliver training on recovery skills including relapse prevention, emotional regulation, stress management, and communication.
- Ensure all facilitation adheres to program fidelity guidelines and best practices.
- Create a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental environment that promotes healing and self-efficacy.
Client Support:
- Work collaboratively with clients to establish personal goals and monitor progress.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to clients navigating recovery and re-integration into community life.
- Support participants in accessing other Haisla Nation programs, services, and external treatment options where needed.
- Encourage clients to build healthy habits, routines, and support networks that promote long-term wellness.
Cultural & Community Integration:
- Incorporate cultural values, teachings, and traditional practices into recovery support when appropriate.
- Coordinate with other wellness and cultural programming teams to ensure integrated care.
- Participate in community events, outreach, and engagement to promote recovery services and reduce stigma.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records and program documentation.
- Monitor and evaluate participant outcomes and provide regular reports to the Manager.
- Recommend program improvements and adapt content to better serve the needs of the community.
- Participate in regular team meetings and professional development activities.
Skills & Qualifications
- Post-secondary education or certification in counseling, addiction studies, social work, or related field is preferred.
- 1 to 3 years of recent, related experience in addictions, peer support, recovery coaching, or wellness facilitation.
- Certification or training in SMART Recovery facilitation or similar evidence-based programs is an asset.
- Experience with motivational interviewing and trauma-informed practice.
- Ability to lead group discussions and deliver structured learning modules.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with empathy and active listening ability.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common recordkeeping systems.
- Knowledge of First Nations culture and experience working in Indigenous communities is an asset.
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check (with vulnerable sector screening).
Salary Range: $40.14/hr - 47.22/hr
